Additional Comissioner Ajay Rathod was watching all these very keenly on Tv sitting on his couch.Cases of fake babas getting caught satisfying their carnal needs had been on the increase.Just then his phone rang and it was Commissioner of Crime Branch Mumbai Milind Salgaonkar on the other line.
Ajay was requested to take the case of the Bole Baba under him.Since the Baba had numerous "connections" it would need Ajay's style of investigation to build a solid case.Ajay soon got cracking the very next day.He had to be extra cautious in this case and make sure the Baba dint escape the clutches of the law because of "jannta nahin main kaun hoon" attitude.
He first formed a crack team comprising of his right hand - Senior Inspector Mohan Salve,Inspector Michael D'Souza and one of his favourite pot-bellied Sub Inspector Sambuji Rao.
3 police vans speeded up to the Baba's ashram and raided the place.They had to initially face some resistance from the ashram volunteers.Ajay directly headed to the Baba's room where the Baba was sitting in deep meditation.
Ajay sat on the chair opposite the Baba and waited for him to come out of his "deep thought".The Baba on opening his eyes immediately exclaimed
"Jai Shri Ram,i see honesty in your eyes,and i expect you to see the same in me officer" and gave a wry smile.
"Sorry Baba, i am not good at reading eyes" and snatched him by his hair almost pulling it out of his scalp and violently pushed the Baba out of the "meditation" room .The Baba requested one thing.
"Young one please give me some respect,there are lakhs of devotees ,what will they feel,please take me in with some respect".
After handing over the Baba to Inspector Michael with "due respect" ,Ajay and Mohan came back to the room to search for evidence. When on their job Ajay noticed the leopard skin on which the Baba used to sit while doing his meditation. On deeper inspection Ajay found a diary underneath.
It was a treasure trove of secrets.The diary contained all the information with which Ajay could build a solid case. It contained names of ministers,ex-ministers,MLAs,Senior Cops,well known celebraties from Bollywood,reality TV stars etc. But Ajay knew he had to tread a cautious path here,Any botch up and the Baba would go scot free.
He learnt from the other ashram officials and locals in Thane(where the Baba's ashram was located) that the Baba was originally from Chitrakoot, a taluk in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh.He sent a small team under Inspector Michael to find out more about the Baba.
In the evening after having secured the Ashram's premises Ajay went into the cell where the Baba was housed.
" So Baba how was your day?"
The Baba did not speak.
"Come on Baba you have no way out of this ,i will make sure i have an airtight case against you"
Again there was no reply.
"Where will you escape out of this you son of a bitch,how many girls lives have you destroyed"
The Baba now seemingly angry
"Do you know what you have gotten into Ajay,"
To that Ajay immediately retorted
"I know everything Baba,ur political contacts, i know that some of my seniors have used your escort services and would be trying everything they can to get you out of here,you see i have your little red diary",he said dangling the diary in air.
The Baba with a smirk on his face,magnified by the white dhoti and white shawl he was wearing looked directly into Ajay's eyes and said
" You have caught a very very small fish young man,you think that none of my "backers" called because they were afraid of the media- you dont even know that this is a maze you can never solve,this is too big for you to "solve" ACP"
The Baba would not yield to repeated badgering of Ajay and his men.After two days Inspector Michael returned with some startling information about Baba.His name was originally Benny Joseph originally born in Kerala,migrated to Chitrakoot 10 years back, arrested for running a sex racket in Lucknow and was in Tihar jail for 4years. After coming out of jail the Baba had gone underground for about a year before reincarnating himself as Baba Shankarnarayan Dwivedi aka "Bole Baba"
Ajay found this a bit baffling.He asked sub inspector Sambuji to get the accounts book of the ashram.There were 3 huge log books which Ajay carefully looked into .He came across a name of an organisation which had been the ashram's donor for the past 6 years of its existence.
